A Guide to Aiken, South Carolina
Aside from vibrant downtown and quaint southern charm, Aiken, South Carolina has so much to offer. Whether you're an engineering professional for the Savannah River Site, a student pursuing a degree from the University of South Carolina Aiken or any other resident of our beautiful city, there are so many reasons to love your location. Here are three of my favorite aspects of Aiken!
You are in a fantastic centralized location. Beaches, mountains and big cities are all accessible inside a three-hour drive, giving you the perks of each locale without the local prices. Hop on I-20 West and you’ll reach Atlanta in just a couple hours. GA-21 South will take you to Savannah for a day at the beach and a night on the historic riverwalk. To the north and west you’ll find forests, mountains and waterfalls at some of Georgia and Tennessee’s most famous state parks. You have access to it all with the ease and price point of a suburban city.
You have a very welcoming community. Finding friends and fostering lasting connections are easy feats in our city. Whether you’re a young professional, a growing family or empty-nesters, there is a place for you in Aiken. Visit one of our festivals like the ADDA or Joye in Aiken. Grab a drink at Vibes and Vines or take a stroll down arboretum trail. However you chose to spend your time on the town, you’re sure to meet plenty of friendly faces.
You can enjoy Thoroughbred Country. If you’re into anything equine, you’ve come to the home of first-class polo and racing. You’ll often find horse-drawn carriages rolling down the historic streets and over 70 miles of equine trails perfect for walking, running, cycling and horseback exploration. The annual Aiken Horse Show has been held at Hitchcock Woods for over a century, serving as a local favorite and a touring must-see.
